The Buccaneer era started on 25th May 1965 when Cmdt Bob Rogers and Maj John Murphy touched down at RNAS Lossiemouth delivering 24 Squadron’s first Buccaneer tail number 413, and the Buccaneer era ended on 28th March 1991 when the last official flight took place.
This the tribute to all the men and women of 24 Squadron from 1965 to 1991 and their wondeful flying machines the Buccaneer S Mk50.

Thank you for the kind words Martin. It is a very unique book and the first of its kind globally which makes it so much more special.

I recently collected my copy of the “PIRATES OF 24” tribute album. What an excellent piece of work it proved to be !
One cannot help but notice the loving care with which this tribute had been put together by dedicated people, who so obviously love one of the greatest aircraft ever built.
The quality of the photos, which comes from the pre-digital era, is exceptional and the wise choice of very high quality paper to print it on, makes it a worthy tribute to our beloved Buccaneer.
The amount of passion which went into the research of documentation and “Lines Books” is remarkable and results in making the tribute into a magnificent and truly unique publication.
We are all waiting with abated breath for the “prose” part of the 24 Squadron history, which describes the happenings during each Officer Commanding’s tenure. It is a history of which we are justifiably proud : after all, we have the most battle honours of all squadrons in the South African Air Force ! Indeed, of all formations if the South African Defence Force !!
Simon van Garderen.

Thank you for the most generous comments and review Simon. Your contribution towards this book and the volumes still to come is invaluable and will go a long way towards not only sharing an amazing history, but also recording and securing the legacy of the Buccaneer S Mk50 in the service of the SAAF.
